Arizona prevents election recount nightmare scenario with a bipartisan fix

Arizona lawmakers have approved changes to the state’s election policies to prevent any delays in ballot counting for the 2024 presidential elections. The bill moves the state’s primary election from August 6th to July 30th and ensures more time for ballot counting and timely ballot delivery for military and overseas voters. It also establishes signature verification policies into state law, a provision championed by Republicans. The bill now awaits the signature of Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs. The legislation also includes an increase in the threshold for an automatic recount from 0.1% to 0.5% to boost confidence in election results.
