Amelia Earhart mystery gets new wrinkle after plane-shaped object found by sub

Deep Sea Vision, a South Carolina-based company, believes it has located Amelia Earhart’s aircraft on the Pacific Ocean floor. Using powerful sonar, the company scanned over 5,200 square miles of sea where Earhart is believed to have crashed, spotting an anomaly resembling an airplane about 16,000 feet below the surface. Company founder Tony Romeo, a former US Air Force intelligence officer, invested $11 million into the expedition to find Earhart’s lost plane. The discovery was made three months after the scan, and the crew has since moved far from the site. Deep Sea Vision plans to return to the site to collect more images of the object. Until then, Earhart’s plane remains a mystery.
