Amazon skips concessions to EU on iRobot deal – POLITICO

Amazon is refusing to offer concessions to the European Commission to gain approval for its proposed $1.4 billion acquisition of robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot. The Commission has expressed concern that the deal could lead to Amazon hampering sales of rival vacuum cleaners on its online marketplace, potentially resulting in higher prices, lower quality, and less innovation for customers. The final deadline for the EU to approve or veto the deal is February 14. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is also investigating the deal, while the United Kingdom has already unconditionally cleared it.
