Alex Murdaugh is sentenced to 27 years in prison for nearly 2 dozen state financial crimes

Disgraced former South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh, already serving two life sentences for murder, has been sentenced to an additional 27 years in prison after pleading guilty to nearly two dozen state financial crimes. These included money laundering, breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy, tax evasion, and defrauding numerous victims, including his clients, law firm partners, and even his late housekeeper’s family. Although appealing his murder convictions, Murdaugh’s legal saga continues, with a separate guilty plea to nearly two dozen federal charges awaiting sentencing and an ongoing motion for a new murder trial based on allegations of jury tampering.
