Alaska Airlines again grounds all Boeing 737 Max 9 jets
Alaska Airlines grounded all of its Boeing 737 Max 9 jetliners again on Sunday following a notice from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding additional maintenance requirements to avoid inflight blowouts. This decision came after the airline returned 18 of its 65 737 Max 9 aircraft to service following inspections. The recent incident involved a portion of one plane’s fuselage blowing out three miles above Oregon, causing the depressurized plane to return to Portland International Airport. The 737 Max 9 aircraft constitute about 20% of Alaska Airlines’ fleet, resulting in the airline canceling about a fifth of its Sunday flights. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
