Aero restructure main “enabler” of McLaren F1 2023 turnaround
McLaren’s Team Principal, Andrea Stella, led a significant restructure of the team’s technical departments, creating three pillars with their own responsibilities. This restructuring, which Stella dubbed as an “essential enabler,” put Peter Prodromou in charge of aero, David Sanchez in charge of performance and concepts, and Rob Marshall in charge of engineering and design. Although two of the three technical directors have not yet started, Stella believes the new structure has improved clarity of responsibilities and empowered the team’s technical talent. The aero department’s restructuring was pivotal in driving mid-season upgrades that helped McLaren finish fourth in 2023’s constructors’ standings. Marshall and Sanchez will join McLaren in January once their gardening leave ends.
