Advertising Firm Behind Opioid Brochures to Pay $350 Million to States

Advertising company Publicis Group will pay $350 million in a settlement for falsely promoting the drug OxyContin as safe, marking the first settlement involving a marketing firm in the opioid crisis. The New York attorney general announced the settlement, noting that Publicis Health worked with Purdue Pharma from 2010 to 2019 on marketing campaigns promoting opioids. The settlement requires Publicis to pay the amount within 60 days to states across the U.S to help address the opioid crisis. The agreement also prohibits the company from accepting any future contracts related to opioid marketing or sale. However, Publicis has stated that the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or liability.
