A missing person with no memory: How local investigators solved the cold case of Seven Doe

The identity of an elderly person who died in 2015, known only as Seven, has been discovered by police specializing in missing people and cold cases. Seven’s real name was Reba C. Bailey, a 75-year-old Illinois veteran who had been missing since the 1970s. Bailey’s life, including her time served in the Women’s Army Corps and her subsequent homelessness and memory loss, is still largely a mystery. Bailey’s family members had never met her, but had heard stories about her. The Cook County sheriff’s office is now working to honor Bailey with a new gravestone and military honors. The case may also prompt changes to Illinois law, with the sheriff’s office advocating for postmortem fingerprints to be checked against all state and federal databases, not just police ones.
