5 missing Marines confirmed dead following helicopter crash

Five U.S. Marines have been confirmed dead over 24 hours after their CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed during a training flight. The helicopter had taken off from Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas and was headed towards Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego when it was reported overdue. Despite atmospheric river storm conditions hampering the search, the wreckage was discovered on Wednesday morning. Recovery efforts for the victims’ remains are ongoing and an investigation is underway. President Joe Biden and Maj. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte have expressed their condolences to the families of the fallen marines.
