40 inches of snow expected to hit Northeast in lake-effect storm

Severe weather hit the Northeast of the United States, causing at least one fatal road accident and disruptions to morning commutes. Up to 40 inches of snow were expected overnight due to the first significant lake effect snow event of the season, particularly impacting areas around the Great Lakes and interior Northeast. The National Weather Service in Buffalo, New York, warned of reduced visibility during peak travel times, with 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour forecasted. A fatal bus accident occurred in Killington, Vermont, due to the weather conditions. Heavy snowfall was also reported in Pennsylvania.
