3rd victim ID’d; college professors decry gun violence

Three college professors were shot dead by a disgruntled former professor on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, leading to calls for gun control. The shooter, Anthony Polito, was a former faculty member at East Carolina University who had applied for jobs at several Nevada colleges, including UNLV, but had been rejected. The incident sparked outrage among educators across the country, with American Association of University Professors President Irene Mulvey describing gun violence as an “unacceptable national menace.” In response to the tragedy, UNLV announced the cancellation of in-person classes for the rest of 2023.
