26,000 Texas Rape-Caused Births Alarm Abortion Rights Groups

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) estimates that since the 2022 reversal of Roe v. Wade, over 26,000 rape-caused pregnancies have occurred in Texas. Texas has the highest number among the 14 states with a total abortion ban, with approximately 45% of such pregnancies occurring in this state. The study also revealed that the fertility rate in Texas has increased for the first time since 2014, while the national rate has fallen. The birth rate for Texas teens also increased for the first time in 15 years. This has sparked outrage among some, calling for better support and resources for women, particularly those who have been victims of sexual violence.
