2 police officers shot, suspect dead after HPD manhunt
Sydney Tafokitau, an attempted murder suspect, was killed in a shootout with Honolulu police officers, two of whom were injured. The incident followed an island-wide manhunt involving a carjacking and multiple shots fired at pursuing officers. The police officers, one with five years of experience and the other with two years, were hospitalized after the shootout. Tafokitau, 44, was shot and later died in hospital. A fourth male was also injured by a police vehicle during the chase, but no further details were released. The Honolulu Police Department defended itself from criticism for not releasing information during the active chase.
