2 Navy SEALs missing off Somalia coast were on a nighttime boarding mission: US officials

Two U.S. Navy SEALs have gone missing off the coast of Somalia during a nighttime boarding mission in the Gulf of Aden, according to U.S. officials. The reason for boarding the vessel is not clear, however, search operations for the SEALs are ongoing. The Gulf of Aden has become a hotspot for U.S. Naval activity due to increased attacks by Houthi militants. The U.S. Navy has responded to distress calls and shot down Houthi drones and missiles, and recently carried out airstrikes against nearly 30 Houthi-associated locations. The missing SEALs were forward-deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, supporting various missions.
