17-year-old alleged ‘serial swatter’ charged after police say he made threats throughout the country

A 17-year-old from California, dubbed a “serial swatter,” is now facing charges in Florida after allegedly causing hundreds of swatting incidents and bomb threats across the U.S., which involves making false reports to police. The teenager, Alan Filion, was extradited to Florida to face charges related to a swatting incident at a mosque. Among his targets were high schools, historically Black colleges, mosques, FBI offices, agents, and threats to bomb military bases and the Pentagon. Filion was traced through several accounts on swatting service websites and IP addresses linked to his home. Charged as an adult, Filion faces three felony charges of false reporting and a felony charge of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
