1 dead, 4 hurt after storm blows through Claremont destroying several homes – WSOC TV

A severe storm, suspected to be a tornado, swept through a Claremont neighborhood in Catawba County, North Carolina, causing one death and injuring four others, two of whom are in critical condition. The storm caused significant damage with some houses completely destroyed. One of the victims, a man in his 30s, died while attempting to protect his pregnant girlfriend. The National Weather Service will survey the area to determine if it was a tornado. Local officials reported that the storm displaced about 30 people, with the American Red Cross setting up a temporary shelter for those affected.
