Pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech have filed a lawsuit against Hungary for refusing to pay for supplied COVID-19 vaccines, citing the conflict in Ukraine as the reason. The companies are demanding payment for 3 million doses of BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, worth around 60 million euros. Hungary had informed Pfizer in November 2022 that it had no intention of paying due to the conflict in Ukraine. The lawsuit will be heard in a Belgian court. Pfizer had previously filed a similar lawsuit against Poland, which also refused to accept and pay for the COVID-19 vaccine citing force majeure circumstances and increased financial expenditure due to the need to accept many refugees after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
