The Dallas Cowboys won a controversial 20-19 game against the Detroit Lions, with a two-point conversion attempt involving lineman Taylor Decker being flagged for illegal touching, resulting in a game-deciding penalty. As ESPN’s footage showed, both Decker and Penei Sewell, also lined up as an eligible receiver, reported to referee Brad Allen before the play. However, Allen mistakenly understood that Dan Skipper was the eligible player, leading to the penalty flag. FOX’s rules expert Dean Blandino suggested that both the Lions and Allen were at fault for the confusion. Allen defended his decision, stating that he did not perceive Sewell and Decker as declaring themselves eligible. The incident has fueled criticism of NFL officiating.
