Man Arrested for Serious Drug Offences Following Property Search

Detectives from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch arrested a 60-year-old man from Two Wells for drug trafficking offences after a search at a business premises in Wingfield revealed 57 kilograms of vacuum-packed cannabis in his vehicle.

The seized cannabis, which equates to over 19,000 street deals, could potentially fetch up to $500,000 in South Australia. This significant seizure indicates a proactive police effort in the battle against the illegal drug trade.

Further search at the vehicle owner’s home led to the seizure of additional items, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis. The man was denied police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson, Head of the Serious and Organised Crime Branch, asserted that SAPOL will strongly pursue anyone attempting to profit from the drug trade. He emphasized that consequences of such crimes, including asset seizure and imprisonment, can have severe impact on offenders and their families.

Trafficking commercial quantities of cannabis is a serious indictable offence, carrying a maximum penalty of $1,000,000 or imprisonment for life, or both.
