Danville Town Council to Vote on Medical Marijuana Delivery Ordinance

The Danville Town Council will cast votes on a proposed ordinance on Tuesday. This ordinance seeks to amend the town’s municipal code allowing for the home delivery of medical marijuana. The upcoming state legislation, which takes effect in the new year, has spurred this decision.

The councilmembers discussed this possibility in a study session on October 10. They asked the town staff to draft an ordinance permitting medical marijuana home delivery while ensuring recreational deliveries remain prohibited.

“The ordinance asserts that any other deliveries remain illegal within the Town,” informed city attorney Rob Ewing in a staff report.

A State Senate bill will be effective from January 1, preventing local municipalities from banning medical cannabis delivery to patients and caregivers. The current municipal code of Danville prohibits all marijuana deliveries.

The Danville Town Council has scheduled a meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 7). The agenda for the meeting is available here.
