Connecticut’s First Cannabis Union Contract Unanimously Ratified

Advanced Grow Labs (AGL) workers in West Haven, New Haven County, approved their union contract in a unanimous vote on December 28, confirmed by a United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 919 spokesperson. This marks the first cannabis union agreement in Connecticut’s history.

The ratified contract provides significant benefits, such as up to 25% wage increase over three years, enhanced holiday pay, secured retirement and health insurance, improved safety measures, and job protection.

This ratification follows workers at AGL’s formation of a union back in March 2023, the first initiative of its kind by cannabis workers in Connecticut.

AGL Production Technician Alanna Daniels expressed her pride in being part of the first cannabis union in Connecticut. She regards this as a significant milestone for the state’s industry and their company, encouraging other workers to unite similarly.

AGL Harvest Technician Christopher Mckenzie echoed Daniel’s sentiments, calling the agreement “groundbreaking”. He added, “Now that we have a union contract, we have a voice at work and an improved future.”

UFCW, the largest cannabis workers union in the US, represents tens of thousands of workers across various areas, including dispensaries, labs, delivery, kitchens, manufacturing, processing, and grow facilities.

Cannabis workers interested in forming a union at their workplace can reach out to UFCW Local 919 Director of Organizing Emily Sabo at 203-915-4561.
