Connecticut Raises Cannabis Purchase Limit

  • Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) has announced that from December 1, 2023, the state’s adult-use cannabis transaction limit will increase to half an ounce of flower, or its equivalent, during one transaction. The increase is a result of an ongoing analysis of available supply and demand in the state.
  • The new limit allows for the purchase of different types and sizes of products combined up to a total of half an ounce of flower or its equivalent per transaction. This could, for example, be equivalent to 14 pre-rolls at 1 gram each, or 28 pre-rolls weighing 0.5 grams each. The limit for medical patients remains at 5 ounces per month with no individual transaction limits.
  • DCP Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli stated that the increase in transaction limit is due to more retailers, production companies, and other supply chain licensees coming online, thus increasing the capacity of the industry. The DCP also confirmed that transaction limits will continue to be reviewed over time.

Connecticut’s DCP Increases Adult-Use Cannabis Transaction Limit

Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) will increase its adult-use cannabis transaction limit to half an ounce, or equivalent, per transaction starting December 1, 2023. This change is based on an ongoing analysis of supply and demand in the state.

Customers can purchase various products up to a total of half an ounce of flower per transaction. This could mean acquiring 14 pre-rolls at 1 gramme each, or 28 pre-rolls weighing 0.5 grammes each.

Notably, the existing limit for medical patients remains the same. They can buy up to 5 ounces per month without individual transaction restrictions.

DCP Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli said, “Since before January 2023 when the adult-use cannabis industry launched, DCP has regularly reviewed supply and demand. With more retailers and production companies coming online, industry capacity has grown.”

Cafferelli further adds that, “This calculated approach to adult-use sales fosters a healthy business environment and ensures a safe and equitable marketplace for adult-use cannabis consumers and medical marijuana patients.”

The DCP also reassures that transaction limits will be reevaluated periodically.
