Catskill Cannabis Dispensary Update from Greene County Rep

  • A cannabis dispensary, named Catskill Roots, has been proposed for the Catskill area. The project representative, Demetri Chriss, has spoken at a Village Planning Board meeting, stating that the application for the dispensary license is in place with the New York state Office of Cannabis Management and Cannabis Control Board, and expressing confidence in the dispensary receiving its license.
  • The dispensary is planned to be located at 79-81 Maple Ave., Catskill and the property is planned to include a café converted from a house at the front, while a garage at the rear of the property is planned to be converted into the dispensary. The rear of the property will be used for deliveries and staff parking, with a total of 20 parking spots planned for the dispensary and café. The property will also feature 24-hour surveillance, with a feed from security cameras tied directly into the Catskill Village Police Department.
  • According to Chriss, customers must be 21 or above with valid identification to enter the dispensary, with their IDs being scanned to Albany in real time. Deliveries to the building are to be made in small quantities once a day, in a small, unmarked transit vehicle. No cannabis consumption will be allowed on site, including in the proposed restaurant on the property.

Catskill Cannabis Dispensary Project Update

The proposed Cannabis dispensary, Catskill Roots, at 79-81 Maple Ave., Catskill had a representative attend the Village Planning Board meeting recently. Demetri Chriss hopes that the project will progress by the next meeting on Jan. 22.

The dispensary license application is currently with the New York state Office of Cannabis Management and Cannabis Control Board. Chriss is confident that the dispensary will receive its license in due time.

This comes after state cannabis regulators resolved two lawsuits in November, which had previously barred the opening of recreational cannabis dispensaries statewide.

Kevin Conklin, from Conklin Architecture, detailed the site plans during a public hearing in November. The property’s front house will transform into a cafe, while the garage at the rear will be the dispensary. An existing log cabin will be taken down.

The property’s rear, off Cowles Street and Edgemere Hill Road, will serve as a delivery and staff parking area. A total of 20 parking spots will accommodate the dispensary and cafe visitors.

The Catskill Village Police Department will have direct access to a 24-hour surveillance feed from security cameras on the property.

Chriss clarified that only individuals over 21, carrying valid identification verified in real time with Albany, will be allowed to shop at the dispensary.

Deliveries at Catskill Roots will happen daily in small quantities via an unmarked transit vehicle. Chriss also emphasized that there will be no cannabis consumption on the dispensary premises, including the planned restaurant.
