Bellarmine, Green Flower Launch Kentucky Cannabis Education Programs

  • Bellarmine University in Kentucky has announced that they will be offering Cannabis Education Certificate programs, joining 25 other universities across 19 states that have partnered with Green Flower, a company that educates individuals about the cannabis industry.
  • The four certificate programs, consisting of three eight-week courses each, focus on the business, medical, agricultural, and compliance aspects of the cannabis industry. The aim is to provide education about cannabis, not advocacy for it, and the programs are set to start at the beginning of 2024.
  • The introduction of these programs comes in anticipation of medical cannabis legalization in Kentucky, which will come into effect in January 2025. It is believed that there is a high interest in the subject within the state, and the programs aim to prepare individuals for the changing landscape and potential job opportunities in the cannabis industry.

Higher Education in Kentucky Embraces Cannabis Industry

Kentucky joins the trend of higher education embracing the cannabis industry. Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, now offers Cannabis Education Certificate programs, in partnership with Green Flower, a leading provider of cannabis education.

Bellarmine University is among 25 universities across 19 states that have collaborated with Green Flower with the aim to educate those keen to enter the cannabis industry.

Kentucky shows high interest in this industry due to the recent legalization of medical cannabis. Governor Andy Beshear signed a bill in March allowing the use of medical cannabis, aligning Kentucky with 37 other states in the U.S.

This law will be effective from January 2025. Experts, however, suggest that now is the optimal time for individuals and business entities to familiarize themselves with the industry.

Green Flower, established in 2014, has been instrumental in providing this education via partnerships with universities nationwide. Daniel Kalef, Green Flower’s Chief Growth Officer, emphasizes the importance of gaining a solid foundation in cannabis knowledge to succeed in the growing industry.

Bellarmine University responded proactively to the need for education in this area. They recognize the potential for job creation and the need for understanding amongst professionals including doctors, lawyers, and nurses.

The partnership between Bellarmine and Green Flower has resulted in four cannabis education certificate programs, covering the fields of business, medicine, agriculture, and compliance. Each program consists of three eight-week online courses led by expert instructors.

Abigail Walsh, Bellarmine University’s Director of the Center for Community and Professional Education, expresses that the aim is to educate, not advocate for, the cannabis industry. She believes that timely information about the legalization has created a compelling need for such programs within their community.

The educational void in the cannabis industry, coupled with the medical legalization in Kentucky and Ohio, makes it an opportune time for people to get involved.

These certificate programs are open to the community and will commence from early 2024. For more information about the program and to apply, visit the program dashboard.
