Pittsburgh‘s Best Maternity Hospitals

In its 2024 rankings, U.S. News & World Report has recognized three Western Pennsylvania hospitals for their exceptional maternity care. These top-rated medical facilities are West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland, and Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.

U.S. News & World Report’s Seal of Approval

These hospitals have been selected as the best maternity facilities in the Pittsburgh area by U.S. News & World Report. This prestigious seal of approval is given only to hospitals that meet high maternity care standards, particularly for uncomplicated pregnancies. According to Dr. Richard Bergi, UPMC Magee’s president, the recognition is a testament to their team’s expertise in providing an excellent birthing experience and their unwavering commitment to expectant parents and babies in the region.

Exceeding Maternity Care Standards

In their evaluation of maternity hospitals across the nation, the U.S. News & World Report scrutinized nearly 680 facilities. Only less than half of the hospitals offering maternity care and participating in their survey were designated as high-performing institutions.

Such a recognition was based on a comprehensive analysis of key maternity care indicators such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, rates of breast milk feeding, early elective delivery dates, birthing friendly practices, and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.
