Top-Ranked Professors at Boston College

Of particular note, Boston College in Chestnut Hill is home to some of America’s top-10 ranked professors. According to a study by college information platform CollegeRover, professors at Boston College received an impressive score of 4.2 out of 5.

How the Study Worked

The CollegeRover study utilized data from popular student review site RateMyProfessors.com, comparing over 79,000 professors from more than 2,100 schools across the United States and the United Kingdom. Rankings were then compiled according to subject and state, drawing on average scores from anonymous reviews on RateMyProfessors.

The team at CollegeRover highlighted the significant impact a professor can have on a course’s success, stating, “A good (or not-so-great) professor can make or break a university course.”

Pennsylvania’s Professor Rankings

Pennsylvania’s professors received an average rating of 3.6 out of 5, positioning the state 7th in the national rankings. Notably, professors at Immaculata University in Chester County received a high score of 4.1. In contrast, Centenary University in Cheyney was at the lower end of the spectrum, with a score of 2.6.

National Professor Ratings

Across the US, professors earned an average rating of 3.4 out of 5. Utah led the way with the highest score of 3.6, while North Dakota trailed with an average rating of 3.0. Notably, Monroe College in New York City had the best-rated instructors nationwide, receiving an average score of 4.3.

For students seeking more than rankings, CollegeRover recommends contacting recent graduates or the college’s alumni office for additional insights. They suggest considering factors from school rankings, professor ratings, athletic offerings to the physical location of the institution.
