2024 Trail of the Year Nomination Deadline Approaching in Pennsylvania
Outdoor enthusiasts residing in Pennsylvania have until the upcoming deadline to nominate their preferred trail for the esteemed title of 2024 Trail of the Year.
A Word from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
Cindy Adams Dunn, Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), expressed her keen anticipation for the annual selection process in a recent news release. She voiced her eagerness to recognize Pennsylvania’s top trail of 2024. Dunn also emphasized the integral role Pennsylvania’s impressive natural resources play in fostering an outstanding outdoor recreation experience.
Dunn said, “Our commonwealth boasts some of the nation’s finest natural resources and spotlighting our trails is crucial for the future of outdoor recreation. I am excited about the forthcoming contest and intrigued to see which trail earns the crown.”
Nomination Process for Pennsylvania’s 2024 Trail of the Year
To be considered for the award, interested parties should submit a completed nomination form and supporting documentation online by November 10th. The Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee (PTAC) then designates the Trail of the Year.
The PTAC’s yearly designation aims to boost enthusiasm and support for trails while enhancing public awareness of the significance of Pennsylvania’s extensive trail network.
Recognition for Winning Trail
The victorious trail will receive recognition in a DCNR news release, a commemorative poster for distribution across the state, and a trailhead marker. In addition, the winning trail will secure a grant for educational programs to foster safety and environmental protection on the trail.
Previous Pennsylvania Trail of the Year Winners
The Mount Jewett to Kinzua Bridge (MJ2KB) Trail is set to hold the title of Pennsylvania’s 2023 Trail of the Year. The Mid-State Trail, running through Bedford County, earned the honor in 2019.
