Report Identifies Pennsylvania City as One of the Best for Singles
Exploring the Best and Worst Cities for Singles
Not all cities are created equal when it comes to the dating scene. A recent study by the online rental platform, Zumper, has ranked the best and worst cities for singles. This study factored in data related to the single population, median one-bedroom rent price, restaurants per capita, non-family median income, and other key metrics.
The Best Cities for Singles
Topping the list of the best cities for singles is Atlanta, closely followed by cities in Ohio and Florida. Below is the complete list:
- Atlanta, Georgia
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Washington, D.C.
- Orlando, Florida
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- Richmond, Virginia
- Pittsburg, Pennsylvania
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Denver, Colorado
- Tallahassee, Florida
- Charleston, South Carolina
- Cleveland, Ohio
The study also highlighted certain cities that won in various categories such as the lowest median 1-bedroom rent (Wichita, Kansas), largest percentage of singles (New Haven, Connecticut), and highest dating satisfaction (Gilbert, Arizona), among others.
The Worst Cities for Singles
On the other end of the spectrum, the study identified the worst cities for singles, with California unfortunately taking four of the top spots:
- Bakersfield, California
- Santa Ana, California
- Anaheim, California
- Fresno, California
- Newark, New Jersey
- Plano, Texas
- Irving, Texas
- Wichita, Kansas
- El Paso, Texas
- Henderson, Nevada
- Boise, Idaho
- Arlington, Texas
- Jersey City, New Jersey
- Shreveport, Louisiana
- San Antonio, Texas
Bakersfield was noted for its limited dating satisfaction and entertainment options, coupled with a high cost of living. Fresno was identified as struggling with a lack of entertainment choices and a less than ideal dating scene.
Rounding out the top five worst cities for singles was Newark, New Jersey, where high cost of living and lack of entertainment and dating satisfaction were identified as key challenges.
The data for this study was gathered from the U.S. Census Bureau, Zumper’s rental price data, customer surveys, and other sources. For the full details, see the study.
