Elon University Women’s Tennis Team Opens Season with Tough Loss

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team wasn’t able to secure a victory in their season opener against the formidable North Carolina team, the reigning NCAA national champions, with a final score of 7-0. Highlights of the Match

During this contest, the North Carolina team demonstrated their prowess by sweeping the doubles matches, giving them an early lead. Notably, all three doubles teams from North Carolina are currently ranked within the top 25 of the ITA doubles rankings.

The North Carolina team continued their dominance in the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets. This resulted in a comprehensive 7-0 victory. Five players from North Carolina’s singles lineup are included in the top 50 of the ITA singles rankings.

Despite the tough match, freshmen Ella Suk and Mariana Reding had the opportunity to make their dual match debuts. Reding participated both in doubles and singles, while Suk played at No. 6 singles.

Looking Forward to the Next Match

The Elon team now prepares for their home opener at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center against Longwood on Jan. 19, scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.

The match results revealed that North Carolina’s Reese Brantmeier, Carson Tanguilig, Elizabeth Scotty, Abbey Forbes, Thea Rabman, and Lindsay Zink defeated Sibel Tanik, Lizette Reding, Miray Konar, Helen Sarikulaya, Mariana Reding, and Ella Suk from Elon respectively in the singles matches.

In the doubles, North Carolina’s Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty, Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig, and Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran won against Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding, Madison Cordisco and Mariana Reding, and Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya from Elon respectively.

The order of match finish was Doubles (1,3,2); Singles (3,4,1,5,6,2).
