Top QB in USA: Mack Brown Endorses Drake Maye

Thrilling North Carolina Football Showdown: Duke vs North Carolina

In an exhilarating fourth-quarter showdown, Duke and the 24th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels battled it out, landing into double overtime. In the end, it was the Tar Heels who triumphed, largely thanks to the exceptional performance of quarterback Drake Maye.

High Praise for Tar Heels’ QB Drake Maye

At his postgame press conference, Tar Heels’ coach Mack Brown commended his quarterback’s spectacular performance in UNC’s 47-45 victory over Duke. Brown did not hesitate to declare Maye as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

“I saw Drake Maye do some things tonight that are just unbelievable…I think he has to be the best quarterback in the country. It’s just amazing to me that he keeps doing what he’s doing,” said Brown.

Outstanding Performance by Maye in Tight Contest

It wasn’t just Maye’s plays that stood out. Brown also highlighted the quarterback’s composure during the tense match, which likely provided the Tar Heels the edge they needed to secure the win.

“Just so proud of the way he played tonight. He played with confidence and he never even flinched when there was 41 seconds left,” Brown recalled. “I said, ‘Hey!’ and he said ‘We’re good. We’re good, Coach. We got this.'”

Impressive Stats from Drake Maye’s Performance

In the rivalry win, Maye’s stats were impressive. He completed 28 out of 43 passes for 342 yards, scored a touchdown, and even intercepted a pass. He also rushed for two more scores, resulting in a total of three touchdowns for the game.

This includes his touchdown pass with less than two minutes to go, which regained the lead for his team, and a drive that set up the tying field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. In double overtime, Maye’s rushing score and two-point conversion pushed Duke out of reach.

Maye Stands Out Amidst a Season of Stellar Quarterbacks

Despite a season filled with exceptional quarterbacks, Maye stands out as one of the best. However, Brown went a step further, asserting that his team is confident that they have the best quarterback in the country this year and one of the most talented he has coached in his career.

“I think he’s as good as anybody I’ve ever been around. It’s unbelievable,” Brown said. “I said that to the team in there. We have the best quarterback in the country. He is unbelievable.”
