Swim & Dive Team Triumphs in Princeton, Greensboro Matches

Competitive Swimming in North Carolina

In SALT LAKE CITY, Elias Petersen and Holly Waxman stunned audiences with first-place finishes at the Big Al Invite in Princeton, N.J. Simultaneously, Brandon Miller and Summer Stanfield secured finals positions at the US Open in Greensboro, N.C., representing the University of Utah swimming and diving team.

Highlights from the Pool in North Carolina

Brandon Miller’s performance was a highlight of the day, securing the eighth-fastest time in the 400 individual medley preliminary heats with a finish time of 4:21.70. This led to his qualification for the 400 IM A final, where he also placed eighth. Summer Stanfield clocked in at 5:02.88 in the women’s 400 IM, earning a spot in the C final, where she placed seventh.

Evan VanBrocklin placed 27th in the men’s 100 fly, reaching reserve status in the final. Jakub Walter and Matt Wilcox also competed successfully in the men’s 200 free and 100 breast, respectively.

“We had a great day today,” says associate head coach Michele Lowry. “This is always a hard time to swim fast and we stepped up and raced hard.”

Remarkable Diving in New Jersey

In New Jersey, Holly Waxman started Utah’s diving day with a score of 302.85 in the 3m final, achieving first place. With an impressive score, she also qualified for the NCAA Championship. Kathryn Grant also posted an automatic qualifying score in the 3m.

In the 1m, Elias Petersen excelled, scoring 343.80 points in the prelims, then 337.30 in the final, topping the leaderboard for the fourth time in his sophomore campaign.

Head diving coach Richard Marschner praises Holly and Elias for their performance under pressure and their steadily improving diving levels.

What’s Next?

Another day of swimming is ahead for the Utes in North Carolina, while Utah’s divers will continue their competition in the Garden State on Saturday.
