In the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5, three new candidates for state-level positions in North Carolina were tracked by Ballotpedia, showing an increase from the previous week.

The group of candidates consists of one Democrat and two Republicans, all aiming for a place in the state legislature in 2024.

Meet the Candidates

Details on the three new state-level candidates are as follows: 

  • Lisa Grafstein (D), incumbent and candidate for North Carolina State Senate District 13, has expressed her dedication to public service and her commitment to advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, workers facing unfair treatment, and individuals whose civil rights have been violated.
  • A staunch fiscal conservative, Robert Hanig (R), incumbent and candidate for North Carolina State Senate District 3, is known for his dedication to tax cuts, education, and conservative values. His commitment to fiscal responsibility and sustainable economic growth has had a positive impact on North Carolina.
  • Scott Lassiter (R), a current member of the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District and candidate for North Carolina State Senate District 3, stresses his unique perspective and experience in public education and his dedication to utilizing common-sense conservatism.

Trends in North Carolina State-Level Politics

Since the beginning of the year, Ballotpedia has identified 51 candidates for state-level office in North Carolina. In 2022, this region saw 437 candidates run for these roles, while 2020 had 508 candidates.
