Explosive NC State Triumphs 84-55 Over Kentucky: Nov 23, 2023 Recap

North Carolina State Basketball’s Momentum Continues Post-UConn Win

Following their victory over the previously second-ranked UConn, the North Carolina State basketball team has surged back into the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25. The Wolfpack’s performance continues to impress, keeping their momentum alive with every game.

Wolfpack’s Dominant Performance at Paradise Jam Tournament

Madison Hayes led the charge with 15 points for the now tenth-ranked North Carolina State in an impressive 84-55 thrashing of Kentucky at the Paradise Jam tournament. Hayes’ contribution included three 3-pointers, as she shot 5 out of 6 from the field. N.C. State (5-0) showcased their depth, with three additional players scoring in double figures against a struggling Kentucky team (2-3).

Wolfpack head coach Wes Moore praised his team’s performance, emphasizing the significance of the win against an established Power 5 team. Moore highlighted his team’s readiness and ability to shift focus from relaxation to competition.

Outstanding Team Play and Individual Performances

N.C. State saw some standout performances, with Saniya Rivers tallying 13 points and River Baldwin and Mimi Collins adding 11 and 10 points respectively. The Wolfpack demonstrated their dominance as they led by as many as 41 points in the late third quarter.

Moore observed the team’s supportive dynamics and unselfish play as key factors contributing to their success. Despite Kentucky’s Ajae Petty, Saniah Tyler, and Eniya Russell each scoring nine points, the Wolfpack maintained a solid lead throughout.

Statistical Dominance of the Wolfpack

The team’s shooting saw a season-best 54.8% from the field (34 of 62), allowing them to build significant leads. Their largest lead of the game was 76-34 in the closing seconds of the third quarter, marking a yet another dominant display.

Kentucky’s head coach, Kyra Elzy, acknowledged their delay in finding their rhythm both defensively and offensively. The Wildcats will need to improve before they begin their Southeastern Conference play in six weeks.

Upcoming Games

N.C. State will next take on Cincinnati in their second Island Division game at the Paradise Jam, while Kentucky will face its first AP Top 25 team this season, playing No. 3 Colorado.
