CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte 49ers head coach Ashley Chastain excitedly reveals the 2024 Charlotte softball schedule, featuring 28 home games at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium, a debut in the American Athletic Conference, and 11 non-conference games against Power Five rivals.

Charlotte 49ers fans can look forward to a competitive season with regional top competitors due to Charlotte’s geographic advantage. The team is set to take the program to new heights and can’t wait to play before their supportive fan base, Niner Nation, at The Sue.

Key Highlights in the 2024 Schedule

The season starts with the JoAnne Graf Classic where Charlotte will face reigning national runner-up Florida State on Feb. 8. The tournament runs for three days with five games, including two against Texas Tech and one against Florida A&M.

Charlotte will host its home opener on Feb. 16 against Boston University in the annual Charlotte Invitational. Over the course of two days, Charlotte will play against Boston and Canisius.

The schedule includes four games against ACC teams: hosting Clemson (Feb. 21) and Virginia Tech (March 13), and playing away games at NC State (March 26) and Duke (April 10). All these teams finished in the top-25 in RPI last season.

Invitational and Classic Games

The 49ers will travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Invitational on Feb. 23, competing against teams like South Carolina, James Madison, Hofstra, and South Alabama. The Queens City Classic on March 1-3 will see Charlotte host teams like Kentucky, UNC Wilmington, and Minnesota.

This year’s schedule includes eight games against Quadrant I teams and five games against Quadrant II teams, the rest of the top-50 RPI finishers.

American Athletic Conference Debut

The 49ers will mark their American Athletic Conference debut with a trip to South Florida on March 8-10. The home conference opener will welcome Memphis to the Queen City the following weekend (March 15-17).

As part of their conference schedule, Charlotte will host Wichita State (March 28-30), Florida Atlantic (April 5-7), Tulsa (April 19-21), and North Texas (May 3-5). The series against North Texas will include Senior Day.

Road games will feature match-ups against East Carolina (March 22-24), UTSA (April 12-14), and UAB (April 26-28).

Other Key Match-Ups

Beyond conference games, the 49ers will have a home-and-home with UNC Greensboro (Feb. 28 at home and April 24 on the road), a trip to NCAA Tournament participant Liberty (March 20), and a home contest against Coastal Carolina (April 17).

The 2024 American Athletic Conference Softball Tournament will be played from May 8-11 at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kan. on the campus of Wichita State University.
