With a viewership reaching millions, the National Dog Show Presented by Purina is the premier event for dog lovers across the United States. This highly anticipated show, which takes place on Nov. 18-19, features over 2,000 top show dogs, all fighting for the prestigious titles of Best of Breed, First in Group, and Best in Show. The event is traditionally broadcast on NBC following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Competitors in the National Dog Show

Competition in the National Dog Show is fierce, demanding the best from both the dogs and their handlers. Maureen Rogers, a resident of Surf City, North Carolina, explains, “It’s a very large special show.” Preparing for the show often involves extensive grooming, handling, and experience in the show ring.

Among the competitors is Rogers’ own dog, Wrassy, a Brussels Griffon. Wrassy, also known by her show name CH Calicops Sassafras Gonnakikurass, is recognized as one of the top-winning Brussels Griffon in the country.

North Carolina’s Best in the Show

Rogers, a seasoned participant in the dog show circuit, has seen success with a variety of her dogs in events such as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and the American Brussels Griffons Association National Specialty.

Also participating in the National Dog Show is Oak Island resident Vicki Smith, owner of a Great Dane and a soft-coated wheaten terrier. Her Great Dane, known as Felize in the show world, has been awarded top-20 winner for two consecutive years. Smith’s soft-coated wheaten terrier, Ana, is also a standout competitor with her show name Summerland Luciana’s Beach Baby.

North Carolina Representatives in the National Dog Show

In addition to these top competitors, the National Dog Show will feature dogs from numerous North Carolina locations, including Asheville, Boone, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, and Raleigh, among others.
