2023 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year: Davius Richard

At the 65th Annual National Football Foundation Awards Dinner, Davius Richard, the star quarterback from North Carolina Central University, was celebrated as the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Richard was honored with the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year title for the second year in a row. His outstanding performance this season has broken records and significantly contributed to NCCU’s first ever FCS playoff game.

Richard’s Record-Breaking Season

Due to Richard’s exceptional skills and leadership, the Eagles secured nine victories in 2023, scaling new peaks in the FCS rankings—including a remarkable No. 7 national ranking. Notably, Richard was the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, a title he secured after a triumphant 2022 season which culminated in a Celebration Bowl victory.

An impressive player, Richard leads the FCS in points responsible for, with an average of 24 points per game. Additionally, he finds himself in the top 15 nationally across 13 distinct categories.

2023 Season Highlights

In the 2023 season, Richard led the conference with a remarkable 2,177 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes. Out of 273 passes in 11 games, he successfully connected 166, boasting a school-record completion percentage of 60.8 percent. Richard also led the Eagles in rushing touchdowns with an impressive 18, breaking the school’s single-season record in the process.

Richard is one of only two players in the history of the school to accumulate more than 10,000 yards of total offense. Over his career, he has accounted for 117 touchdowns (73 passing, 44 rushing), breaking yet another school record.

Davius Richard: A Contender for the Peyton Award

Richard is under consideration for the prestigious Stats Perform Peyton Award. This award is given annually to the best offensive player at the FCS level and is often referred to as the Heisman of FCS.
