Career-Best 23 Points for Blackmon in Defeat to Furman

In Conway, S.C., Jr. guard Kylan Blackmon of Coastal Carolina, achieved his career best with 23 points, however, their team ended up short against Furman at the Myrtle Beach Invitational second-round match, held at the HTC Center.

Highlight of the Game

Blackmon’s three-pointer brought the Chants closer with a score of 64-58, with only nine minutes left on the clock. He then scored five points in a 12-3 rally that lessened the gap to 67-65, with six minutes to go. Furman’s guard, Marcus Foster, scored 30 points, the highest in that game, helping Furman maintained their lead at 75-67 with four minutes left. Both teams exchanged scores throughout the remaining time.

Player Performances

Foster was aided by Carter Whitt who scored 20 points, leading Furman to their 3-1 standing for the year. Blackmon, standing 6’3″, ended with 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 from beyond the three-point line. Jacob Meyer ended with 18 points while John Ojiako scored 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Chanticleers.

Post Game Analysis

Coastal head coach Cliff Ellis expressed, “When you score 80 points, that’s enough to win a game. This team is going to get better. I thought Kylan (Blackmon) played his best game, and Jacob (Meyer) is unafraid for a freshman. We are showing some good signs.”

Game Statistics

Furman made 12 three-pointers while Coastal made 10. Furman also had nine more free throws (13-of-17 as compared to 4-of-7). Despite the loss, the Chanticleers won the rebound battle, 41-30.

What’s Next?

Coastal will face Charleston at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in their third game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. They will then resume their regular season against North Carolina Central at 2 p.m. ET next Sunday, Nov. 26.
