Recognizing Future Sports Broadcasters in Pennsylvania

Family of the renowned Myron Cope, together with Point Park University, have initiated a unique scholarship awards program in Pittsburgh. The aim is to celebrate and reward the future generation of sports broadcasters from western Pennsylvania school districts.

The awards include categories like best live sports broadcasts, with up to three schools having the chance to be honored in each category. Students can also compete for individual awards, with winners standing to receive up to $1,000.

One of the prestigious awards is the Bob Pompeani Award for High School Sports Broadcaster of the Year. Applications are now open until April 15, 2024, and winners will be announced in early June.

Words of Wisdom from Myron Cope

Elizabeth, Myron Cope’s daughter, believes her father would have been proud of this initiative. Reflecting on what advice he would give to young aspiring broadcasters, she shared, “Be yourself and don’t be afraid to take risks. Don’t let someone tell you that you don’t have the right voice or the right look.”
