Doylestown Entrepreneurs Win in Local ‘Shark Tank’ Style Competition

Winner Samantha Myers, founder of ByeByeCry, a baby sound machine designed to soothe colicky babies, and runner-up Rochelle Berg, founder of Living Smart Granola, a line of vegan and gluten-free granola products recently triumphed in the Spark Bowl, an entrepreneurial competition held in Doylestown, PA, thanks to mentoring from SCORE Bucks County.

Local Small Businesses Shine in Spark Bowl

Hosted by Delaware Valley University, the fourth iteration of the annual Spark Bowl saw five Bucks County business finalists present their business pitches, Shark Tank style. Each business finalist was paired with a student team and an advisor, working collaboratively on a compelling, business-minded five-minute pitch.

ByeByeCry Wins Big

First-place winner, Samantha Myers of ByeByeCry, secured a $12,000 prize money to be spent on marketing and maintaining the ByeByeCry app. A Warrington mom who conceived her business while on maternity leave with her youngest daughter, Myers has sold over 1,100 sound machines on Amazon since launching in March. Looking towards the future, Myers plans to expand her user base globally and help families struggling with colic worldwide. Read Samantha Myers’ story here.

Living Smart Granola’s Success

Rochelle Berg, founder of Living Smart Granola, claimed the second-place prize of $6,000. Berg plans to invest the award money into marketing her delicious, nutritious, and allergy-friendly granola products. Until now, Berg’s granola, produced in 100-pound batches every fortnight, has grown purely through word-of-mouth marketing in the local community. She anticipates revenue growth in the near future as she plans to introduce her products to health food stores and Whole Foods. Read Rochelle Berg’s story here.

Bridging the Gap between Students and Businesses

The Spark Bowl, according to Delaware Valley University School of Business, Arts and Sciences Dean, Tanya Casas, offers students an opportunity to get first-hand experience in planning and problem-solving for businesses. The competition highlights the university’s emphasis on “experiential education and experiential learning”.
