‘Best New Museum’ in America Award Goes to Pennsylvania Museum

Gettysburg Museum Receives Major Award

The distinguished “Best New Museum” title has been awarded to a Pennsylvania museum by USA Today. The recipient of this prestigious award is Gettysburg Beyond the Battle, a museum that allows visitors to delve into the history of one of the most significant battles of the American Civil War.

Surpassing museum nominations from major cities like New York, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas, Gettysburg Beyond the Battle won the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award, according to a press release.

Accolades for the Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum

Executive Director Andrew Dalton expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, stating, “The outpouring of support from our friends, both locally and nationally, has been incredible. We experienced a remarkable year in 2023 and are eagerly anticipating even more visitors in 2024. Winning this award is a tremendous honor and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, members, and supporters.”

Highlights from Gettysburg Beyond the Battle’s Inaugural Year

Located at 625 Biglerville Road, the museum opened its doors in April and quickly became a must-visit destination. It drew in over 50,000 visitors in its first year and hosted more than 50 events, including the 30th Anniversary celebration of the movie “Gettysburg.”

The immersive “Caught in the Crossfire” exhibit is a particular highlight of the museum. This exhibit allows visitors to experience firsthand what it was like to live through the historic events of July 1863.

Celebrating the Award with the Community

To commemorate this momentous award, Gettysburg Beyond the Battle will be opening its doors free of charge to any resident of Adams County on January 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
