YouTube Star Sentenced for Deliberate Plane Crash

On Monday, the YouTuber and former Olympic snowboarder Trevor Daniel Jacob was sentenced to 6 months in federal prison for obstruction of justice. Jacob had deliberately crashed his single-propeller plane to boost his social media presence.

Planned Crash Posted on YouTube

Jacob, 30, confessed to orchestrating the crash on November 24, 2021. He posted the incident on YouTube nearly a month later on December 23, under the title “I Crashed My Airplane.”

Purposeful Delay in Reporting

Jacob intentionally waited two days before reporting the pre-planned crash to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). He was advised to preserve the wreckage, but stalled the investigation by stating he didn’t know where the plane had crashed.

Removal and Disposal of Wreckage

Unbeknownst to the NTSB, Jacob used a helicopter to lift the wreckage from the Los Padres National Forest on December 10, 2021. He then dismantled and disposed of it.

Statement from Jacob

During his sentencing, Jacob was ordered to surrender to the authorities by January 29. Through his lawyer, he stated, “This experience has been humbling.” He also confessed that the sentence was the “right decision.”
