The country star announced in June 2022 that he had been diagnosed with cancer the previous fall and was undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, as well as surgery.

Keith was a major figure in country music, generating $40 million in global music sales with 24 studio and compilation albums, and 2 Christmas records during his three-decade career. He produced 61 tracks that charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, including 20 number one hits and 22 others in the top ten.

His memorable songs include “Who’s Your Daddy?,” “Made In America,” “Should Have Been A Cowboy,” “As Good As I Once Was,” and the 2005 duet with Willie Nelson, “Beer for My Horses.”

Born in Oklahoma, Keith began his music career in 1993, after working as a rodeo hand, a roughneck, and playing semi-professional football. He performed for US military officers and three former American presidents: Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush. He was known for his generosity, often giving gifts to wheelchair-bound veterans at his shows.

In 2021, then-President Trump awarded Keith the National Medal of Arts, the highest accolade given to artists by the US government.
