Dr. Thomas Lee Joins Blue Cross Blue Shield MA Board

  • Dr. Thomas H. Lee, a leading health policy expert, has been elected to the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. He is also a cardiologist and the chief medical officer at Press Ganey, a health care performance improvement consulting firm.
  • Dr. Lee brings over three decades of expertise to the board and will serve on the board’s finance and business performance committee and the health care quality and affordability committee. His expertise is viewed as crucial as Blue Cross re-focuses its mission on ensuring members receive exceptional health care affordably, equitably and seamlessly.
  • Before joining Press Ganey, Dr. Lee served as network president for Partners Healthcare System and he is also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His research in clinical epidemiology has led to over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals and four books on health care.

Healthcare policy expert, Dr. Thomas H. Lee, has been elected to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross) board of directors. Currently serving as chief medical officer at Press Ganey, Lee brings over 30 years of healthcare expertise to the Massachusetts’ leading health plan.

Dorothy Puhy, board chair, applauded Lee’s addition to the board. “Tom’s expertise comes at a critical time as we refocus our mission towards ensuring our members receive exceptional, affordable, and seamless health care,” she said.

“I’m excited to join the board and help Blue Cross continue to innovate for quality and affordable healthcare access for all,” Lee added.

Prior to Press Ganey, Lee served as network president for Partners Healthcare System, now known as Mass General Brigham. He’s lauded for his vast understanding of the healthcare industry from multiple perspectives – practitioner, patient experience expert, health system leader, and experienced board member.

As a member of the Blue Cross board, Lee will serve on the finance and business performance committee and the health care quality and affordability committee.

Background on Dr. Thomas H. Lee

Dr. Lee, chief medical officer at Press Ganey, is focused on developing strategies to improve the patient experience. He also serves as a practicing internist and cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and a professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Lee’s contribution to clinical epidemiology research is well-documented with over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals and four health care books. He serves on several boards and panels including The New England Journal of Medicine and the Congressional Budget Office panel of health advisors.

Dr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College, an MD from Cornell University Medical College, and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health.
