The banal and the divine
The article discusses Maryam Taghavi’s first solo museum show, “Nothing Is,” highlighting her fascination with Islamic mysticism and positionality. Her work includes paintings, calligraphy, and sculpture, frequently using the noghte, a diacritical mark used in Arabic and Persian scripts, as a way to connect with her heritage and create new meanings. The exhibit includes collaborative work with calligraphy artist Parisa Shafiei and a sculpture paying homage to Iranian sculptor Parviz Tanavoli. The exhibition is about transition, openness, and surrender, and straddles the line between the banal and the divine.
