Obituary of Fern Taney (1930-2023) from Mountain Top, PA
Remembering Fern Jean Andress Taney
Fern Jean Andress Taney, beloved mother and grandmother, passed peacefully at her home in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania on October 30, 2023. Born in Wapwallopen on November 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ward and Leola Finagle Andress.
A Full Life Lived
Her strong will and lively spirit were with her till the end, and though we were fortunate to have almost 93 years with her, it still wasn’t long enough. Fern is now reunited with her late husband, George Taney, whom she married on August 19, 1950. Their life together was filled with trips to the Delaware seashore, card games, casino visits, and endless chats over a pot of coffee or glass of whisky.
A Family Mourns
She is survived by her children, Gloria and Randal Taney and Lisa Kemmerer (Taney), and their spouses; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Fern was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Jane, her sisters Geraldine Izzo, Olive Faux, and Nora Cybulski, and her brothers Donald and Ward Jr.
Her Legacy
Fern had a lifelong career at RCA in Mountain Top for 24 years and later worked at the Crestwood School District for 10 years. She was also a certified nail technician from Joe Mar Beauty School. No matter if you knew her as a mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend, she touched lives and will be sorely missed.
Funeral Service Details
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Dorrance. Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top.
